POINT AND SHOOT - TIPS on Travel Photography Edwin B. Lasquite, M.M. MANAGE YOUR EXCITEMENT - Relax; don’t forget the elements of photography. Enjoy the scene while carefully examining the area and subject before clicking the shutter button. CULTURE SHOT - It is best to do research before you travel. Be sure to gather enough information so that you have an idea on what, where and when to shoot. It’s best to ask the locals for more information. TAKE SHOTS FROM DIFFERENT VANTAGE POINTS - Explore different variations, take photos in eye level, while standing, kneeling down or even while on a portable step ladder. Each point-of-view produces different angles and effects which can be very interesting. MAKE SURE YOUR PHOTOS UNIQUE AND TIMELESS - Everytime you press the shutter button, it is important that you can carefully study the elements of your composition – colors, subject and other elements of your distraction. Establish your foreground and background before clicking the shutter button. BE OBSERVANT AND ALERT - As travel photographers, we do not always have the luxury of time to wait for the best available light. We have to be conscious, alert and prepared! A practical approach to travel photography is to take pictures at any given time even – we don’t know when we’ll go back to that place and time. RULE OF THIRDS AND BALANCE - A shot is considered balanced when the subject is within the rule of thirds. In case you plan to violate this rule make sure that there are elements around the subject. When taking verticals shots, make sure that there is something happening on the upper and lower half of the photography. SUNRISE/SUNSET SHOTS - The best time to shoot a sunrise or sunset is 30-45 minutes after the sun sets or rises in the horizon. Best mountain shots are made during this time because all hues appear. The lighting at this specific time gives a lot of texture, depth, and creates 3 dimensional images. KEEP THE PASSION - Shoot photos as if it’ll be your last. Maintain the energy! Keep practicing and take as many picture as possible. Most great photos are not planned but captured at perfect moment. ALL PICTURES CAPTURED Powered by CANON EOS 450D and CANON POWERSHOT S70
